Short-Term Running Goals: Just keep running!
Long-Term Running Goals: Marathons...and maybe an Ultra Run if I really need a challenge. Personal: I am 26 years old. I am the Production Coordinator for all visual communications for Kiawah Island Real Estate. I've been a runner since high school, and I have a competitive nature that should explain my high mileage. I challenge myself to accomplish what I never imagined I could do, and I try to encourage myself and others to push their limits. I'm usually late to parties and social gatherings, since I have to get the run in first...(but luckily, I have great friends who acknowledge my routine). I suffered a bad case of plantar fasciitis March of 2010, and I picked up cycling/spinning while I recovered. Surprisingly, I totally loved it. I only ran on a whim or on weekends, or on vacation days when my gym was closed. This fall, I finally got back into the swing of things and started racing again. I'll try to update my races and runs more frequently. I'd like to be where I was 2 years ago....12 miles a day...I mean...what?!?! =)

Heat advisories are NOT fun. Really sweaty, really hot run. But it was good. |
| |
Heat advisory AGAIN. 10 miles starting at about 9:30 in the morning, but I was so sweaty and gross after 10, I had to call it quits to go home and shower. My evening plans fell through, so I added 5 more miles to the morning's 10. It ended up being pretty successful. I rewarded the day's efforts with some ice cold Coors Light. HEAVEN.
|
| | I usually do "long run Sunday" when I run the longest of any day in the week. Since Saturday was 15 (and that was pretty long) I stuck to 14. It was breezy, still really hot, but not humid. So it was a great evening run.
|
| | I had to kill time while my parents hosted dinner guests (i didn't want to walk into the house sweaty and nasty while they were eating). So i added 2 miles to the usual 12. Not typical, but it was a gorgeous afternoon with a very unusual high tide. It was a "spring tide" that was so high it covered the streets. It was cool. Sidenote: I live with my parents while I'm waiting to close on my new house. Totally temporary.
| |
| | Normal run. Nothing out of the ordinary.
| |
| |
13 miles after work. It was a very nice evening, but the first hour was HOT. I made the mistake of wearing a cotton t-shirt instead of my Nike Dri-fit. But once the breeze picked up, it was awesome (that's how I managed the distance, couldn't help myself, so I kept going!)
| | Covered 10 miles before work this morning because I have a happy hour date tonight (yay!). It's been a while since I've run that early, but last time I did that it was still cold and dark in the mornings. I left the house at 6. It took about an hour and half, not bad, but it was really gross and humid out. I only take on the sunrise when I have to. As beautiful as a sunrise might be, sleep usually takes precedence.
|
| | Heavy rain and lightning limited me to a 9 mile run. Well, more like an 8 mile run and a 1 mile swim.
And P.S. –bugs like to hide under trees during storms too, as is evident by the massive itching bug bites all over my body.
|
| | First day since March 7 that I am not running. Taking a day off to drink beer, eat crappy foor, and tailgate the day away at Clemson University and cheer on my alma mater. GO TIGERS! | |
| | 3 hours, 10 minutes. That's the longest I've ever run at one time. It was nice. |
| | My birthday yay! Had a great morning run then got together with friends to watch Clemson lose to Maryland. Terrible game. Luckily, we put it behind us and had a great party Saturday night (i challenged everyone to a "24 Beers for 24 Years" drink-off. I failed, but so did everyone else. It was a lot of fun, another great birthday for the books.
|
| | Really great Long Run Sunday. 20 ties my max for a single run. Now that the weather is getting cooler, I will certainly try to run a marathon one Saturday. I mean, what's 6 more miles? I think it's smooth sailing after 16.
|
| | First rainy day in Charleston in weeks. Luckily, the rain stopped before the evening, but it was very humid, and there were lots of puddles. I got splashed by some mean drivers. They were probably fat and jealous that I was out running.
| |
| | Perfect evening, but I was really tired. It was cloudy most of the day, and a lack of sunlight really takes its toll on me (which is why I'm dreading Daylight Savings time). Long runs in the dark are not fun, except, they aren't terrible in December because usually the streets are lined with houses decorated with Christmas lights and festive decor. Towards the end of my run, I ran past 2 people walking a dog and I overheard one of them whisper "She runs every day." I laughed to myself because I have never seen either of them before...
| |
| | REALLY humid. I thought summer was over. I was wrong. I should NOT have worn a white t-shirt.
|
| | Absolutely perfect run. Although, I have a chronic muscle pain in my lower left abs. It's been ongoing for a few months now. It's painful for the first few strides of my run, and then it kind of pops or stretches out and I'm all better. It hasn't gotten worse, but it's not going away. I religiously change my shoes every 300-400 miles, so I know it isn't a footwear problem. The obvious solution is to rest....but everyone knows I don't really do that. Anyone have a similar issue? Is this a common muscle strain? I've tried to stretch it, but the only way to stretch it is to do a crunch. It's a very curious and stubborn muscle...
| |
| | It's not over til it's over. And it's never over. | |
| | Trip to the mountains, Asheville NC. We watched Clemson edge out #10 Miami. That was all the exercise I needed! |
| | Not too thrilled with the new 5:30 sun down....however the sunset was AMAZING last night. |
| | Excellent weather. Aside from the darkness it was a perfect run. | |
| | Absolutely perfect Saturday. 65°, clear and sunny. I was kind of beat though, since I ran 14 last night, about 15 hours earlier. Geez. I wish running could be a career. Like the more you run, the more money you make. That would be amazing. Too bad professional running isn't the same as the NFL or NBA. | |
| | So I tripped and fell during this run...terrible. Luckily it was dark and no one saw me. I was run off the sidewalk by a jerk on a bike, and I landed on my hip (note to self: try to get fatter hips to cushion the bone in the event of a fall). I think all is well, aside from a nasty bruise and a little bit of swelling. Bony hips = pain. Hips are a lot like the funny bone, they are equally un-funny upon impact. | |
| | No running today because of the hip. Instead, I stationary biked for 2 hours. Not sure of the distance because the screen wasn't lit. It was nasty and raining out anyway, so it was a decent workout. | |
| |
Back to normal. The hip is really nasty bruised, but it's totally just a surface wound. It definitely pays to keep the bones healthy and strong. This bruise is sick, I'd post it but I want to keep my posts clean (ha ha).

| | A little chilly for Charleston, about 52°, cloudy, windy, and misty, but overall, it was great weather. If it dipped below 50, that would've been another story.
|
| |
Awesome conditions for a long run. It was sunny and about 68°. I hit the road around 3:00 and finished a little after 6:00. Not bad. I then ordered some new shoes (Zappos.com is an amazing site. They have free shipping and free returns if shoes don't fit. They frequently offer free overnight shipping too). Anyway, I got the ASICS GEL Phoenix 3—these sound intense! Haha ASICS never let me down!
|
| | I closed on a house today, so I cut my run short to clean it from top to bottom! | |
| | Morning run before heading to my house to paint all day. |
| | 2 hours of stationary biking in the evening after another long day of painting. It was cold and rainy, so I wimped out of my usual long run. I might try for a long one Tuesday or Wednesday before my 5K on Thursday morning. | |

| | Indoor biking due to the rain. Boring, boring, boring... | |
| | (see Wednesday. Heavy rain blows.) | |
| | Tomorrow's race conditions look absolutely terrible! Around 42° and raining. I'll try to be optimistic but.... :) | |

Kiawah Island Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:32:22, Place overall: 85, Place in age division: 1
So I rocked the race this morning! It was freezing cold, but the rain held off. The start was really slow, not sure why. I think I was too far back, but I made up for lost time once I managed to break out from the pack. Official time was 1 hr 32 min, about the same as last year, but conditions were less than favorable this time around. I'm happy with this one! And I won my age group: 18—24.

| | I rescued a dog on my run! I never mess with stray dogs, but this little cairn terrier ran for a mile and a half with me all the way home, so I was obligated to save him. He didn't have a collar on, so of course I was paranoid that I would get rabies. I called animal patrol who of course closes shop at 5, so here I was with this dog (who was not coming into my house wet from the rain) overnight until I could do something with him. But miraculously, the family called animal patrol after I did, so they got my address and came to save Ozzy who escaped from the yard the one time his collar and leash were in the laundry. This dog was absolutely adorable. I think he just needed to go for a run....bad! | |
| | Short run, office Christmas party was calling my name. |
| | I joined the MUSC Wellness Center today, so I have a nice warm place to run during the winter evenings. I picked a good day to join since there was a monsoon that flooded the city. Of course, there should've been a disclaimer letting me know that the entire Medical University is like 6 feet below sea level. Luckily, my car was high enough to brave the floods, but others were not so lucky. There were tow trucks, ambulances, and mass chaos as I tried to leave. Ironically, all was definitely not "well" as I maneuvered the flooded streets escaping the Wellness Center as high above the water as possible. |
| | Day off from work. Sunny, 55°, very good day for a long run outdoors. Also gave me time to think about what I would be shopping for later in the evening...a little late to start Christmas shopping, I know... Good news is, I managed to happily check everyone off my list. Ho ho ho | |
| | It's starting to get a little easier to run around the indoor track. 78 times around went by pretty quickly...sort of. | |
