Short-Term Running Goals: Just keep running!
Long-Term Running Goals: Marathons...and maybe an Ultra Run if I really need a challenge. Personal: I am 26 years old. I am the Production Coordinator for all visual communications for Kiawah Island Real Estate. I've been a runner since high school, and I have a competitive nature that should explain my high mileage. I challenge myself to accomplish what I never imagined I could do, and I try to encourage myself and others to push their limits. I'm usually late to parties and social gatherings, since I have to get the run in first...(but luckily, I have great friends who acknowledge my routine). I suffered a bad case of plantar fasciitis March of 2010, and I picked up cycling/spinning while I recovered. Surprisingly, I totally loved it. I only ran on a whim or on weekends, or on vacation days when my gym was closed. This fall, I finally got back into the swing of things and started racing again. I'll try to update my races and runs more frequently. I'd like to be where I was 2 years ago....12 miles a day...I mean...what?!?! =)

Freakishly cold in Charleston. I'm glad to have an indoor exercise option. Also, I don't believe in global warming. A week of 30° weather in Charleston is a good argument in opposition! Brrrrrrr
| |
| | As much as I encourage exercise, I can't stand the New Year's resolution crowds at the gym. | |
| | There was a REALLY obnoxious running group on the track tonight. So rude, no running etiquette whatsoever. It ended up being more of a sprint workout dodging these people for at least half an hour during the middle of my run. | |
| | 65. Sunny. Like a spring afternoon. In January. |
| | I think the New Year's resolutioners might have already called it quits! Or maybe they did their workouts earlier since they likely had MLK day off from work. I'm crossing my fingers that they're gone! |
| | Yes. 16 miles on the track. 96 times around. I should've just added the extra 4 laps to make it a solid 100. I broke it down though, so I didn't realize until I was done that the number was so high. We had an office birthday celebration yesterday, so I blame it on the sugar high! | |

People know me at the gym now. I'm like a celebrity...sort of...intriguing at least. Last night, I was told I was "inspirational." I'll take that! If we can be sources of encouragement to other runners, that's all the gratification I need.

| | Miserable workout. The Cooper River Bridge Run walking crowd overtook the track, and I lost
count so many times, I have no idea how far I really ran, probably ended up being like
80 laps. Some 70 year old woman named Marilyn told me her life story
when I tried to stop and stretch, and then she asked me to analyze her stride. Seriously, she talked to me for almost 10 minutes, and I couldn't escape. Then a fairly attractive guy told me he was tired of me passing him. It was awkward
because I was passing him again. What a day... Wednedays are usually better on the track.

Not on the track. Outside in the sun! About 48°, clear and calm.
|
| | I decided to devote Valentine's Day to something I love: running. I finally ran a marathon (not an official race). It was pretty awesome. I kind of cheated though. I ran 14 then took about a 30 minute break and ran the last 12. The weather was great, upper 40s and sunny. The new normal for Charleston. It was good times, now I want to run a full race! | |
| | The bottom of my feet are killing me! I think it's residual pain from the 26 miler last Sunday. I don't usually have any pain, and pain doesn't bother me too much. I've had pain under my heels before, and I've always just run through it, and it eases up with time. Any advice from anyone out there? I know the plantar fascia muscle, or whatever it's called, can get stretched out and that leads to heel pain. My arch doesn't hurt at all, just my heels. My shoes are pretty new, a few weeks old maybe. | |
| | The pain in my feet eased up today, but I had a little mishap with a guard rail on the roof of the gym (there's a track up there). I inadvertently ran my fist into the front of the railing when I came around the curve. Terribly painful. It was like punching a steel wall. This is why I ran 12 instead of the usual 13. The last half a mile was a disaster, and I knew an additional mile just wasn't happening. We'll see how tonight goes! | |
| | Had to do some serious raking in my front yard and driveway. I had to sacrifice some Saturday mileage, but the yard looks good! | |
| |
This ended up being a a sprint workout of sorts. I was forced indoors due to rain and coldness, so I had to dodge a stupid walking group on the track. I really wasn't in the mood for that...but when all was said and done, it ended up being an okay workout (though I was hating every minute of it!).
|
| | Major foot pain today. MAJOR. Going out of town for the weekend, so Saturday will be a much needed day of rest for my aching feet. |
| | Sorority reunion at Lake Keowee...and my first day off in months. | |
| |
Had to stop after 5. Either pulled my achilles or strained it after over-compensating due to plantar fasciitis pain. Taking a breather for about 2 weeks to make sure I recovery fully. Taking up biking. Not fun, but no strain on the arch, achilles, or calf. So we'll see. I was supposed to run the Cooper River Bridge 10 K Saturday, March 27. Oh well.

| | Not a bad run at all. I was surprised to find that I maintained my fitness level after a 2 week break. Not really a total break I guess, since I've been biking about 24 miles a day! Anyway, good run on Easter Sunday. I'm filling in this entry on Tuesday April 6, and my calves are very very sore! So I'm going to continue biking and will incorporate short runs in between until I'm back to normal. Also, I think my shoes might be part of the problem. I think they're already worn down on the inside. | |
